Florence Fairleigh is the innocent - daughter of the recently deceased vicar of a small village, she has come to London to ask a solicitor friend of her late father's for assistance in finding a sponsor that would help her to find a husband. Her sights were not set on a love match, but she thought herself attractive enough to at least find a suitable husband that would be able to provide for her some semblance of security and a home. She was willing to risk one half of the meager inheritance she had left towards this cause. The solicitor knew of the recent scandal surrounding the Earl of Greystowe's younger brother Freddie and thought that this might be the answer to everyone's prayer. He broached the subject with the Earl and arranged for him to view the young lady without her knowledge, to ascertain whether he thought she would be a prospective bride for his brother. The Earl was quite smitten himself with the girl and set in motion a plan to have her sponsored by the dowager Duchess, his Aunt Hypathia.
Clueless as to what plans were made behind her back, Florence was taken in, appropriately gowned and presented to the ton, with the help of the Duchess, and her two nephews, Edward and Freddie. Freddie, with his charm and good looks soon became Florence's best friend as Edward did his best to bury the growing lust and connection he felt towards Florence by appearing gruff and unapproachable. Edward's entire life had been devoted to caring for his younger brother. He had to save Freddie and he would be willing to go to any lengths to accomplish that, including forsaking any thoughts of taking Florence for himself.
What follows is a very erotic tale of Edward trying his best to control his lust for Florence. Florence, the innocent, was too naive in the beginning to realize what her body was telling her every time she and Edward touched, but eventually the urges got the better of both of them. Quite sinfully delicous! WOW!
This is the very first novel I have read by this author - it most certainly will not be the last. The war Edward fought with himself in trying to do what he considered was the best thing for his brother was quite touching - one could feel the love and devotion projected here. Edward's attraction to Florence and his struggle to do the right thing for his brother was so very well developed, you felt his torment as well. Written with deep erotic sexual undertones, it is not for the faint hearted. The story itself is quite different, not your usual run of the mill romance and the sensuality projected here is quite HOT! Personally, I loved it and look forward to reading the sequel - Beyond Seduction.

Emma Holly never disappoints. This is another great story with excellent story telling, erotic love scenes, and intriguing setting. Highly recommended. could not put it down.
author Kelly Jameson (Dead On, To Tame a Rogue)
I would have given this one 5 stars if I liked it as much as Beyond Seduction which I happened to have read first. Although I liked this novel very much it was not as wonderful as Beyond Seduction therefore I have given it 4 stars..... non the less a good read, with lots of HOT lovin' and a great HEA.
Reasonably good story but not very well written IMO. I found the heroine pretty annoying.
Florence Fairleigh comes to London in the hope of marrying, as her late father has left her with very modest means. Her father's (somewhat sleezy) lawyer puts her in contact with Edward Burbrooke who is in the market for a beard for his gay brother Freddie. After Edward has inspected Florence through a peep hole during a dressmaker's fitting, he takes her on as Freddie's fiance and hands her over to his aunt to groom her. Further rumours about Freddie drive them all to Edward's country seat, where eventually Freddie asserts his identity and moves to France with his lover. In the interim however, Edward is lusting after and seducing poor confused Florence, all the while insisting she must marry Freddie because he needs her. The sex scenes are steamy, but Edward doesn't really make it as a romantic hero.
Florence Fairleigh is a vicar's daughter in need of a good marriage. When her father dies, she and her maid more to London to search for a husband with her modest dowry. She hooks up with daddy's lawyer who also happens to be Edward Burbrooke's attorney. Edward is in need of a wife for his errant brother whose homosexual dalliances are causing a stir in London society. His aunt takes Florence under her wing, and soon she is squired around town as the belle of society with Freddie Burbrooke as her intended.
To keep her from finding out about his sordid past, they travel to the family estate to let the two get to know each other better. The problem is that Edward is extremely attracted to her, and no amount of visits to his mistress can cure him of his need for her. Florence too is finding that she prefers the company of Edward since he makes her all tingly. But can she give herself to Freddie when Edward has captured her heart? What will Florence do when she finds out the real reason for her betrothal?
I had a really hard time following this - I am not a fan of historical bodice-ripping romances. The clunky Victorian dialog interspersed with terms no Victorian woman (or man for that matter) would utter was laughable. But no one writes spicy erotic scenes like Emma Holly. To think how creative she was without stealing the woman's virtue... So I have done my one historical for the decade. Back to Holly's contemporary heroines who would kick Edward in the nuts for pulling such a fast one.
This was an interesting twist on the traditional victorian romance novel. I actually appreciated that the sex scenes were very hot by this genre's standard, but I understand this isn't for those who want a tame read. Typical of Holly, there was less traditional elements of homosexuality and bondage, all which added to the story.
The reason I didn't give the story 5 stars, is the ending. (I'm not giving too much away, I promise) The story focuses primarily on the "couple" of the novel all the way through, but the end is more about brotherly love and acceptance. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad there was a HEA for specific characters but it annoyed me that the main "couple" was short changed at the end, and the overall ending seemed rushed especially since rather mundane events took up entire chapters. I found myself looking to see if my copy was missing pages, which sadly, it wasn't.
I still think you should pick this up if you like the genre at all or if you like Emma Holly.
